Juliu Horvath

Creator of the

GYROTONIC® and

GYROKINESIS® methods

In 1977, Juliu Horvath developed the principles behind the GYROTONIC® method through an intensive yoga practice and study into the inner workings of the body. Through his personal journey he created a new movement practice originally called “Yoga for Dancers” and now know as the GYROKINESIS® method.

Juliu, a Hungarian born in Romania was originally a swimmer and gymnast. At age 19 he began to study classical ballet and within one year became a principal dancer with the Romanian State Opera Ballet. In 1970 he defected from Romania and sought asylum in the United States. He went on to dance with the New York Opera Ballet and the Houston Ballet.

The GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® is found world-wide in rehabilitation centers, dance studios, sports training and fitness facilities. The system benefits anyone wishing to gain strength, flexibility and coordination.
